Fiskefjorden i Ofoten

Fiskefjorden i Ofoten

Norway's most spectacular nature experiences at its best in Lofoten

Dramatic, wild and beautiful, and in the middle of the dish

Idyllic fishing villages, dramatically demanding and magnificent scenery, the world's best and safest deep sea fishing. These are all some of the ingredients that Lofoten and the surrounding area have to offer their guests from far and near. Based on the small square Sjøvoll in the middle of the Fiskefjord in Ofoten, we are strategically located at the gate of Lofoten. The weather in the sea gap in Lofoten can at times be so dramatic that there are challenges in getting out on the sea in a boat. However, in the Fiskefjord, which is by the Tjeldsundet within the Westfjord and Ofotfjord, we are much more in the shelter of high mountains, thus giving us the opportunity to get out on the sea to fish even though it cannot be done anywhere else.

Summer and winter, there is always a surprising amount to experience in this intense island kingdom. With the Northern Lights flame flying across the sky and the fantastic color play, winter in Lofoten provides a very special frame. And although the fishing is always good here all year round, it is probably a bit special when the fishing comes from the Barents Sea while the fishermen have set up ready for this year's Lofoten fishing. There is a party for partying with screech mill, cod tongues and cod neck on the menu when the highest quality ingredients are literally just outside the door of the many restaurants.

With its fantastic and dramatic scenery and reasonably safe snow conditions, Lofoten and the surrounding areas are popular for both top enthusiasts and alpine climbing. The feeling after a sweaty and sometimes stubborn upturn - when one looks out over the archipelago and the mighty sea - ready to set out - gives a very special feeling you do not get at other skiing destinations.

You should have plenty of time if you want to bring everything that is to be experienced in the regions around Lofoten. Summer time is probably Svolvær - the "capital of the Lofoten" - a good starting point. But even though this is a bustling folk life in the summer season, it is probably the incredible natural experiences at sea or mountains that most come here. Although the region is reasonably compact, it takes its time to catch the beautiful fishing villages, chalky white beaches and the powerful and dramatic mountains. There are not a few who fall in love with this diverse archipelago quickly and visit year after year.

A fishing trip is probably a must for most, but it is also possible to participate in activities that satisfy even the most energetic activity freak. Surfing, climbing, scuba diving and snorkeling, hiking, golf and kayaking are just some of the opportunities one has.
